Tony FC, LPRC Oilers Battle in LISCR Unification Cup Final

As the weeklong LISCR Unification Cup officially ends today, 5 June at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia, second division Tony FC is due to battle against first division team LPRC Oilers in the grand finals.


The two teams make their way to the finals over the weekend after eliminating their respective semi-final opponents in post-match penalties. Tony FC played the highest games in this tournament, eliminating Freeport FC 3-1 in the penalties after a goalless full 90 minutes.

The Margibi – based club made an impressive performance from the start of the tournament and knocked out GAC FC, Indian – based All-star, and Jubilee FC before securing their slot in the semis.

Tony FC’s opponents, LPRC Oilers reached the finals after edging out second division club Mighty Barrolle, and third division side Junior Professional FC before their big win against host LISCR FC in the semi-finals.

Oilers saw off the host 5-4 in post-match penalties after a one-all draw during the full 90 minutes. LISCR reached the final after defeating rivals Barrack Young Controllers 4-2 in penalties after a 1-1 draw during the full time.

Meanwhile in the Under-15 category, Cece United Football Academy will go against Sam Johnson Academy in today’s final. The winner of the senior category will walk away with US $ 1,000 and a trophy.

Second place will pocket US $ 500 and the winner of the U-15 category will earn US $ 100. Certificates will be awarded to the tournament’s most valuable player, the highest goal scorer, the best coach, best defender and best midfielder at the end of the tournament.
