Monrovia, October 8, 2024/The Magistrate of the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Ben Barcon, has sentenced 25-year-old Malison Garpeh to prison for gruesomely murdering his six months pregnant girlfriend, Promise Gowah, and her six-year-old daughter.
According to the court, Suspect Garpeh committed the crime on Friday, September 27, 2024.
He is currently detained at the Monrovia Central Prison, pending trial. He risks 50 years in prison or a life sentence if found guilty.
The Liberia National Police over the weekend investigated Suspect Malison Garpeh and charged him with Murder and Aggravated Assault for allegedly murdering his 21-year-old girlfriend, Promise Gowah, who was six months pregnant along with their six-year-old daughter.
“In view of the facts established in this case, coupled with chop wounds seen on both victims (Promise Bowah and Faith Miracle Davies), the investigation resolved to charge defendant Malison Garpeh with the commission of the crimes Murder and Aggravated Assault, in violation of Chapter 14, subchapter A, Sections 14. 1 and 14.20, of the revised penal law of Liberia, pending trial by a court of competent jurisdiction”, the Police charge sheet reads.
According to the Police, investigation reveals that the late Promise Bowah had been in a love relationship with Defendant Malison Garpeh under the same roof for less than a year in a three-bedroom house situated in Hast Town, Robertsville, White Plain, Montserrado County, where Defendant Garpeh is caretaker of the premises.
Police findings revealed that the deceased had her little daughter, Victim Faith Miracle Davies, before meeting Defendant Mallson Garpeh.
According to the Police, Malison and the late Promise Bowah were in bed along with his foster daughter Faith Miracle Davies on the night of Thursday, September 26, 2024, when the defendant knowingly, intentionally, and purposely committed the gruesome murder under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to value for human life.
He reportedly fled the house through the back door after commissioning the crime. He went into hiding in a nearby Cassava farm for three (3) days before his arrest after community residents searched.
However, the Police have not established the actual reason for the murder. But the family claims that the deceased was washing the perpetrator’s clothes and discovered a traditional charm, which she engaged him about that led to confusion. Suspect Malison reportedly left the house and returned the same night to carry out the act. allegedly
Other sources said the alleged perpetrator had earlier complained about his late girlfriend being in an extra relationship that led to suspicion that the pregnancy she had was for another person or than Suspect Malison. Editing by Jonathan Browne
