Commentary: Say and mean the same

By: Dr. Togba-Nah Tipoteh
There has been plenty of talk about doing something but not doing it. There has been plenty of talk up to today about getting rid of corruption, but doing so promotes corruption. This is the reason for publishing a Commentary on doing what we promise to do. Check the newspapers of today, and you will read what is being talked about here.
Much of the talk continues to be about appointments. Persons are being appointed without the relevant record for the work. Persons with bad records are being appointed for work that requires persons to have good records. Persons are appointed without being consulted. Persons are given public money to do public work, and the work has not been done well, but there is no public report about what happened to the public money. This is corruption in promotion. All of these appointments and work assignments mean that the appointer is not serious about keeping promises made.
Although the point about dealing with the persons who committed war and economic crimes is most relevant, the appointment of a person with a bad record to be head of the office of war and economic crimes means that the appointer is not serious about ending war and economic crimes. So the wahala about the head of the office of war and economic crimes continues because you can not have a record of promoting something bad and be given the responsibility to bring in something good.
The wahala is good because it is due to the awareness raising that is taking place to make people aware of the bad happenings. It is bad to make a promise and not keep it. As can be seen, the powers that be who are not keeping their promises are being booted out of their offices. Check the results of the Legislators who did not keep their promises but wanted to be re-elected, and you will see that almost all of them were not re-elected. This good trend will continue with the elections coming up.
The only way that the Legislators were not re-elected is through the awareness raising by the people who love Liberia that motivates people to bring the corruption in the National Election Commission (NEC) of Liberia to an end or to a low level as seen in the election of October 10, 2023. It is only through this awareness raising within the Rule of Law that persons with good records can be elected to bring in the system of Justice, the ingredient for Peace and Progress in Liberia and any other country.
