Commentary: Rule Of Law Not Death Threats

By Togba-Nah Tipotehs
The media houses are reporting death threats on the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia. The person who is making this threat is hiding his credentials. He wants the Speaker to resign from the office of Speaker. He is ignoring the Rule of Law, as seen in his lack of respect for what the Supreme Court of Liberia is ruling. The male character is referred to here because male persons have a much longer record than the female in making death threats.
The Rule of Law, as seen in the Constitution of Liberia, remains clear and correct. When anyone resorts to violence, the person is wrong because such an action is illegal and wrong. Violence does not solve any problem. Certainly, the threat maker is a problem maker rather than a problem solver. A good person is a problem solver. A bad person is a problem maker. A Lawbreaker is a problem maker. A Lawmaker is a problem solver.
Persons who are making death threats are making a lot of noise that is leading to national instability and national insecurity. At the level of the family, people are getting sick and even dying from cardiac arrests. Many people are thrown out of the hospital emergency rooms because there are no beds for them to be placed on, not forgetting the lack of relevant drugs. Therefore, they are considered to be dead on arrival (DOA). This is a bad situation, and we must act within the rule of law to stop it and prevent it from happening. Most interestingly, this situation is being corrected through the actions of people who love Liberia.
What actions are being taken to stop and prevent this dire situation? The main action is raising awareness to enable people to gain knowledge that can help them pass on words about how gossip can stop and be prevented, not forgetting the death threats. This method works well, as seen in the many National Legislators who were not re-elected in the October 10, 2023 Election. In fact, 78.86% of the voting age population of Libera voted in the October 10, 2023 Election, a world record, remembering that this is the same Liberia that holds the world record for fraudulent elections, as found in the Guinness Book of Records.
Through awareness raising, the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia had its corrupt practices exposed and minimized the cheating of NEC. With this minimization, there is the transformation from the unfair prevailing electoral system to a fair, enduring electoral system. It is only through this transformation that persons with good records can get elected to bring in the system of Justice, the indispensable ingredient for Peace and Progress in Liberia and in any other country.
