C.B. Dunbar owes $130,685.00 USD

The departing Administrator of the Charles Burgess (C.B.) Dunbar Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County, Mr. Jonah N. Togbah has revealed that the hospital is indebted to vendors in the tune of USD$130,685.00.


Speaking at the turning over ceremony on Tuesday, 12 June, Mr. Togbah said the hospital is indebted to vendors who supplied of fuel, drugs, in-patient food, cleaning materials, stationary and others as of May 2018.

The Charles Burgess Maternity Hospital is a 69 bed facility located in Gbarnga city, in central Liberia. It is the only government – owned hospital in the county and is also the only dedicated specialized health facility in rural Liberia, with 253 staff, both clinician and non-clinician.

Mr. Togbah says outpatient and emergency department are accessible to the general public, noting that the hospital’s special mandate focuses on managing all pregnancy-related complications and catering to women and children in the country.
Mr. Togbah says in fulfillment the hospital’s mandate, C.B. Dunbar is currently managing about 80% of all obstetric complications in Bong County with reverse referral from Phebe Hospital which serves as the county hospital.

According to the outgoing C.B. Dunbar Hospital Administrator, the hospital has been operating on two hundred thousand United States dollars since 2017/2018 budget year. He says it has been posing a serious constraint on the operation of the hospital in the county.

Mr. Togbah who is heading to work with the county health team says the hospital has four generators including two 50KVA, One 110KVA generator, and One 250 KVA generator. He also says it has four vehicles, a spoiled Pick-up, 32 – seated bus, Land Cruiser jeep and Ambulance.

For his part, the new administrator of the hospital, Thomas Kpelewah thanks the outgoing administrator, Jonah N. Togbah for his hard work in bettering the health condition of citizens in Bong County. Mr. Kpelewah vowed to work with staffs of the hospital to engage local leaders of Bong County on the low budgetary allotment the hospital is receiving in every budget year.
