Monrovia, September 25, 2024: The Government of Liberia has charged and sent Samuel F. Zeu, an employee of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), to court for leaking sensitive national security information to the public.

Liberian authorities announced the decision during the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh revealed that they received intelligence about one of their employees who leaked sensitive information to a certain media outlet for USD$100.

He added that they were investigating the Ministry to identify the individual responsible.

According to media reports, the information was provided to Stanton Witherspoon and his Spoon Talk Team at the Spoon Network, a local media institution that runs a nighttime talk show.

Deputy Information Minister Daniel O. Sando disclosed that the Ministry of Justice has charged and forwarded suspect Zeu to court for leaking sensitive information to media platforms.

“Recently, the government has charged and sent to court one employee of the Ministry of Justice for leaking sensitive national security information to a certain media platform,” said Mr. Sando.

Without detailing the charges against the individual, Mr. Sando emphasized that disclosing sensitive national security information is a serious offense with severe penalties.

“While public information is accessible to all Liberians, classified national security information requires proper authorization from the government,” Sanoe argued.

He stated that while there are laws governing public servants, those who violate these laws will face the consequences and that the government is committed to upholding the rule of law.
