CAF Fines Liberia US$5,000.00

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Liberia US$5000.00 for invading stadium perimeters during international matches. The continent’s football governing body decision followed a complaint reportedly filed by Nigeria against Liberia after their 2-2 draw in September 2012 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.

Nigeria in the complaint to CAF said the perimeter of the SKD Sports Complex was parked to capacity during the encounter, making it unsafe for visiting teams and match officials. After looking into the complaint, CAF fined Liberia with the amount which is to be paid before the country’s next outing.

The Liberia Football Association has not made any official comment on the fine imposed by the continental body. Often during international matches in Liberia, hundreds of people ranging from Ministers, football stakeholders, security personnel and ordinary people, who have no dealing with the match, usually invade the perimeters, obstructing the work of reporters.
