AMEZU Graduates without degree

AMEZU Graduates NDThe African Methodist Episcope Zion University College or AMEZUC on Benson Street down town Monrovia is reported to have developed the habit- over a period time now, of not promptly issuing diplomas/degrees to graduates.

Reports gathered by this paper indicate that for the past two graduation ceremonies (2012/13 &13/14), AMEZUC administration has reportedly failed to award degrees and other relevant documents to graduates upon adherence to all requirements.

Last Friday, people believed to be graduates of the university told this paper, through interviews, that since their graduation, the administration of Dr. Mulbah Gray has failed to issue them degrees/diplomas despite payment of required fees and completion of the required courses, for reason best known to the college.

Speaking to the NewDawn in Monrovia, the spokesman for the group said it was unfortunate that the college would choose to treat them in such unwarranted manner and style.

Mr. Evans D. Momoh said due to the delays by the AMEZU administration to make available their respective degrees, many of his colleagues were finding it difficult for well-paid jobs. “This is creating serious problem for us. Many of my colleagues cannot get a job because concession companies are demanding their degrees and other relevant documents for full employment. Many of us are on part time jobs because we cannot show degrees- only letters of attestation which is occasional or temporary,” he said.

According to him, some of his colleagues currently working at the Education Ministry have informed him that the minister of that government institution has instituted a policy for graduates to present their degree to secure jobs for promotion, saying whenever the administration is contacted, Dr. Gray’s administration would always give excuses.

Letter of attestation and souvenir are not as such sufficient for two years of full employment or enrolment to institution of higher learning, he added., “They will tell us this month our documents will be available, but to avail; we’re tired of the delay because this is taking our daily bread from us; our employers may not continue with us because the college that is based in Monrovia cannot give our degree - that’s unfortunate and a bad policy for students who choose AMEZUC for learning ahead of other universities here,” he said.

The President of the AMEZUC, Rd. Mulbah Gray, when contacted via mobile phone over the weekend, confirmed the information, but quickly indicated that only recent graduates that are yet to receive diplomas/degrees due to the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak which took the country by surprise.

He said the Board Chairman of the AMEZUC, who should have signed, could not come down due to the virus, but promised that the chairman is expected in country in October of this year. “Those of us that should signed have done that already, and the chairman of the board, who is based in the United States, could not signed because of the Ebola Virus,” he said.

He also noted that there were some graduates who were making efforts to transport their degrees to the United States for the chairman’s signature through express mail at their expense. By E. J. Nathaniel Daygbor - Editing by George Barpeen
