Nimba Gets Over US$10,000 Donation

More than six towns in Nimba County have benefited from donation by a Liberian group base in the United States of America worth over US$10,000.

Residents of Boe Bonglay and surrounding towns in Nimba benefited the  gesture from the Association of Former Law Enforcement Officers. The Association is comprised of former Liberian law enforcement officers based in the United States of America. The group said the donation is intended to empower young people of the towns.

Making the donation in Nimba, the President of the Association of Former Law Enforcement Officers, Marvin Dahn, regretted the deplorable stake of health facilities in the benefiting towns. Mr. Dahn said the group is interested in the education of young people. He noted that when the youths are educated or empowered, the nation will progress.

He expressed disappointment over the deplorable environment in which kids in the county are learning, noting that students in more than six schools the association donated notebooks and other assaulted items are not conducive for learning. He noted that students in the towns sat on dirt bricks in the classroom, describing the situation as unfortunate.

Speaking to reporters in Monrovia, Dahn disclosed that most of the classes in the six schools he visited to donate books, jersey, football, lack blackboard for teachers to write notes on.

He called on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to invest in the young people of Liberia for the success of the country, and noted that the people of Nimba are always willing to do something for themselves and their county.

Mr. Dahn, who has been out of Liberia for more than a decade however praised President Johnson-Sirleaf for the level of free speech she has provided for all Liberians to express themselves.
