ANC Reacts, But…

The proposed Alternative National Congress (ANC) has reacted to a recent publication in the Friday, 1 February 2013, edition of this paper  captioned: “Uncertainty Hangs Over CDC Breakaway.”

The ANC’s Organizing Committee in a statement released Thursday in Monrovia said it found no evidence of truth in the allegations against the party’s registration process.

The statement under the signature of Thomas Sie-Wade Neufville, Deputy Secretary General for Administration, labeled the characterization of the Chairman as completely ludicrous and incorrect.

“The NEC (National Executive Committee) views the entire article as a propaganda ploy instituted by detractors and embarrassed members of the society intimidated by the progress and stability seen in the ranks and file of the ANC,” it noted. The party further noted that its registration’s process is well on-course and in its final stages.

“We also want to express our appreciation to the National Elections Commission (NEC) for the professional manner in which the party’s registration process is being handled,” it lamented. But this paper stands by the story that indeed there were discontentment and uncertainties hanging over the party’s registration process.

The issue of the publication of recruit listing of the proposed party from 6 of the 15 counties cannot be over emphasized as it is part of the requirements of the National Elections Commission. This paper believes that the electoral laws of the National Elections Commission (NEC) must not be compromised, but adhered to.

It can be recalled that in 2005, Christian Piah, a civil society activist almost blocked the registration of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), when he challenged the party’s roster which contained his name without contacting him in the process. But the situation was compromised following several appeals from the public.
