Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, has travelled to Mexico as Special Representative of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to attend the inauguration of Mexican President-elect, Enrique Pena Nieto, which took place on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

According to a dispatch from the Liberian Embassy in Washington, the inauguration program officially began on Friday night with a State Dinner tendered by outgoing Mexican President Felipe Calderon, while Saturday’s inauguration was followed by a State Luncheon hosted by the new president.

Ambassador Sulunteh, whose diplomatic jurisdiction also covers Mexico and Canada, has travelled to Mexico with a special message from President Sirleaf, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, to the new Mexican President.

In her message of felicitations to the incoming Mexican President, the Liberian leader commended the government and people of Mexico for the transparent manner in which their election was conducted and the orderly transition taking place.

President Sirleaf also wished that the relationship existing between the peoples of Liberia and Mexico will continue to grow mutually from strength to strength, enabling both countries to explore new areas of economic and diplomatic cooperation.

“President Sirleaf wants you to know that Liberia stands with Mexico to uphold the rules of law and to protect world peace and tranquility in promoting the rights of people everywhere in the world as enshrined in the Charters of the United Nations and other international agencies,” Ambassador Sulunteh indicated in President Sirleaf’s message to the incoming Mexican leader.

While in Mexico, the Liberian envoy is also expected to meet with the Mexican Minister of External Affairs, regarding the presentation of his Letters of Credence to Mexico soon.
