Bong County Representative George Sylvester Mulbah has rendered apology to both capitol building staffers and civil servants throughout the country for their ill-treatment in the 2012/2013 budgetary process. Mulbah told the media in Monrovia that they (legislators) were guilty or wrong for their inability not to give civil servants pay-rise during the passage of the budget. The budget  hearings lasted for over 2 months.

“We are guilty; therefore, there is a need to apologize to our people for the ill-treatment. Because since the passage of the budget, whenever you sent your own office staff for a file, he or she murmurs, but they cannot be blamed for that,” Mulbah noted.

During the budget hearings from June to August of this year, increment of civil servants’ earnings was put on halt, reportedly on orders of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf because, according to some members of the Legislators, the pay rolls of some ministries and agencies were bloated with ghost names.

The government is reported to be executing a clean-up exercise which will last up-to next January, 2013. Since the passage of the budget without any increment in the salaries of civil servants, pressure continues to be exerted on both the executive and legislative of branches of government, the main beneficiaries of increased salaries and allowances in the 2012/2013 National Budget, writes TKS.
