Correction Officer facilitates rape
Police in Sanniquellie, Nimba County have arrested and charged a 45-year-old man with allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Vepa community, Sanniquellie.
The incident happened as the Liberian capital, Monrovia is grieving two separate rape episodes, leading to the death of one of the victims, 12-year-old Ma Musu Fofana, in Brewerville, Montserrado County.
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has called for a comprehensive probe into the Brewerville rape incident, promising to ensure that the perpetrator faces touch penalty.
According to police charged sheet, suspect Junior Glahn allegedly carried out the act recently after he was led out of prison through the influence of Correction Officer Larnord Seamehn, who was on duty during the night of the accident.
Police charge sheet further details that suspect Junior Glahn, who is already serving a 15-year sentence, was allowed by Correction Officer Seamehn to come out so that he (Officer Seamehn) could find him a girl to have sex before returning to prison.
Both men then approached the 14 years old victim and asked her to ride with them on a motorbike to an unidentified location where she was allegedly raped.
Liberia enacted a new rape law in 2002, making the crime non-bailable with life sentence penalty.
