Three Liberian students, who were offered scholarships by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to study in China, have returned home following their studies with master’s degrees in separate disciplines.

Students Vallai M. Dorley is a graduate of the Peking University with Master’s in Public Policy, while Francis R. Grant and Saye Vah are graduates of the China Foreign Affairs University with Master’s of Law in International Relations; respectively.

The students said they are cognizant of constrains faced by Developing African Countries, especially in building the capacity of their young generations to enhance proactive governance and bridge the capacity gap in the current political governance of their countries.

“We’ve come to laud the Chinese Government through the Chinese Embassy accredited near Monrovia; the Government of Liberia and the Office of the Senior Adviser to the President of Liberia for the collective role they played and continue to play in building the capacity of young Liberian scholars through Chinese Universities,” they noted.

Speaking on behalf of himself and his colleagues at a news conference, Francis R. Grant noted that the Government of Liberia has directed unrestricted energy to building the capacity of its young generation, and has diplomatically succeeded in directing the focus of the People’s Republic of China as well as other friendly nations and partners to addressing this national emergency.

“Today, as substantiation of the Liberian Government’s commitment to building the capacity of young people as a strategy to bridge the current capacity gap both in government and the other sectors and concretize the foundation for future governance; today, as evidence of the Chinese Government commitment to its support to Liberia’s recovery process, today, as a micro portion of the  fruits of Liberia’s firm support to the One China Policy, we have returned home with three master’s degrees in International Relations and Public Policy from two prestigious Chinese and world respected Universities”, he added.

Grant said he and his colleagues are grateful that President Sirleaf and her policies for today’s governance have been very sensitive not only to building capacity of young people, but also keen on full utilization of those capacities. He then applauded both the Government of the People’s Republic of China and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the opportunity.
