LDLD/MDGs Ends 1st Workshop in Tubmanburg

The Liberia Decentralization and Local Development’s workshop hosted in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, ended yesterday December 7, 2010. The MDGs Localization programs initiative headed by Mr. Robert Dorliae, is targeting local districts in seven counties this week. The programs seek to enlighten and capacitate men and women in those districts, to enable them embark on their own local development plans.
At the closing ceremony of the two day workshop held at the Bomi Women Center, the Development Superintendent for Bong County, Madam Rebecca Benson, urged the participants to practice what they have learned, as the best alternative to achieving the goals of the MDGs in their localities.
“Even though the men are the heads of the homes, the women are the breadbaskets of the homes. It is the woman that will go out there to do every thing possible to bring food in the house,” she said.
She deemed the workshop necessary because according to her, over the years, NGOs or Government projects were taken to the people, but were not community driven initiatives; thus breaching the expectation and needs of the people.
For his part, LDLD Boss Mr. Robert Dorliae, pledged his continued support to the participants and cautioned them to carry the message across to others. According to Dorliae, with barely 5 years to the end of the Millennium Development Goals, the MDGs localization concept has, for the first time, been taken to local people in local districts in the rural areas. Although some of the participants at the workshop could not read and write, they all participated and interacted with each other during the workshop.
David Fleet, LTTA Boss, commended both participants and organizers for the shared responsibilities and patience to undergo and partake in such new development carried to them.
However, the LDLD Team of facilitators is expected to continue the MDGs localization program in Zwedru on December 9 and will climax 10th December, after which they will move to Buchanan to finalize the MDGs localization this week from 13th to 14th December 2010.
